This list of experiences may be some of the opportunities provided for students at the EFP. Competing in these events may be contingent upon the number of students involved, funding, travel costs, or other unexpected difficulties.

DECA
DECA Entrepreneurship Promotion Project: Planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating a campaign to educate chapter members and the general public or an organized group about the opportunities available for becoming an entrepreneur. Suggested targeted audiences are educational groups, business groups, etc.

DECA Business Management and Entrepreneurship Events

DECA E-Commerce Business Plan Event:
Designing and conducting a market research study to identify the potential for e-commerce, then preparing a business plan based on the market research.

DECA Entrepreneurship Participating Event (Organizing an Independent or Franchising Business): Developing and presenting a 9-page proposal to form a business.

DECA Entrepreneurship Written Event: Developing a proposal to start a new business, a self-analysis, an analysis of the business situation, a description of the way the business will operate, and detailed plans for financing the business through its first three years of operation. Any type of business may be used.

DECA International Business Plan Event: Applying marketing skills by preparing a written proposal for a new business in an international setting.

DECA Stock Market Game
Participants in the NASDAQ/Foundation for Investment Education Stock Market Game develop and manage an investment portfolio. The Stock Market Game is conducted via the Internet and allows DECA members to test their skills against other DECA members in an online competition. Each participating team manages all aspects of the portfolio including stock selection, buying and selling. The goal of the competition is to increase the value of the beginning portfolio.

DECA Virtual Business Challenge
Virtual Business is a computerized business simulation in a retail environment. Virtual Business-DECA Edition software is used and the activity is conducted over the Internet. Entries will consist of teams of a minimum of one and a maximum of three DECA members. Four (4) monthly events begin in October. In February, a qualifying round for the International Career Development Conference will be held via the Internet. A live, 32-team, round-robin final competition is held at the International Career Development Conference. Cash prizes will be awarded in the monthly rounds as well as at the final competition.

Hospitality Educational Foundation
Nebraska Restaurant Association
The Entrepreneurship competition is a team competition for students who develop a plan for a small business using ProStart skills and sound business practices. Teams may consist of one to four (2-4) students. The entrepreneurial business must be related to an area of foodservice, restaurant, hospitality, or related occupations (you must be able to prove how your business is related to the restaurant or foodservice industry). Each team must prepare a portfolio and an oral presentation describing the business and plans for implementing it.

JA Economics
This is not your grandfather's economics course. While students receive standard textbooks and study guides, JA brings classic economic theory to life through supplemental computer-based business simulations and a student-run company. Be prepared to have intra-competitions between the different student-run companies.

Entrepreneurship Day at Midland College
All the activities are hands-on. Students will come up with a business name, apply for a loan (actually filling out an application and talking to a banker), buy a piece of real estate (from a broker), negotiate the price on both the loan & real estate, receive money, pay bills, keep track of expenses, develop a logo/motto, develop a business card, film a commercial, and give a presentation at the end of the day. They also discuss and complete an Ethics Case Study as a group.

Close Up Washington and New York (~$1950)
Be a political player in Washington. Walk the paths of power on Capitol Hill and see principles of democracy implemented before your eyes. From Capitol Hill to the monuments and memorials dispersed throughout the city, our nation's capital becomes a learning laboratory for students and their friends. Ask questions and hear updates on important national issues in face-to-face meetings with policy experts. Share your opinions with your peers from around the country.
Experience the excitement of New York. Come with Close Up to investigate the social, political and cultural dynamics of this fascinating, fast-moving metropolitan center. You'll visit the United Nations, Wall Street, Liberty Island, the Empire State Building and other significant landmarks in and around Manhattan. Your discussions of foreign policy and diplomacy will be flavored by the diversity of the city, as you ponder our national identity and the role the United States plays in the world. Attend a Broadway show, taste a variety of cuisines and visit historic neighborhoods like Little Italy.
Eship students will observe and discuss government decision-making on site in Washington, D.C. and New York City with the special flavor that only these unique American cities can provide. Students will transfer from Washington, D.C. to New York City via Philadelphia to visit the National Constitution Center for a study-visit.
The students will discuss key issues with their members of Congress and their staff and other Washington insiders. They will experience a comprehensive study-visit to the heart of official Washington. The will study in the financial district of New York City and visit the United Nations for an on-site study of diplomacy in action. The students will engage in daily workshops. Youth Entrepreneurship Conference, Chicago (~$450)
Take part in three different competitions at this early May entrepreneurship competition. Students can win CASH prizes to assist them in Starting a New Business, Funding a Currently Running Business (if > $250 annual earnings to date), or Running a Exposition Booth during the conference. This three-day conference is a great and inexpensive way (~$450) for students to network, listen to entrepreneurship speakers, and experience Chicago.
