What is the EFP? A Narrative
The Entrepreneurship Focus Program will be a new and rewarding, real world educational experience for juniors and seniors. Partnering with the Lincoln business community, Gallup, Southeast Community College, and the University of Nebraska, courses in entrepreneurship skills, business, English, math, and social studies will be blended into a comprehensive curriculum of entrepreneurial studies. Students will be immersed into a rich curriculum environment of real life applications and internships, speaker series including local-regional-national entrepreneurs, business plan development, student competitions and student-directed learning.
The E-ship program will be located in the Southeast Community College building that serves as a unique center of entrepreneurial resources for Lincoln and the surrounding area. This environment will provide students an opportunity to uniquely transform their traditional high school educational experience into real world preparation to pursue their entrepreneurial passions and work with local business and financial experts. Students will also be allowed to construct first-hand experiences in the business world whether it be through an intensive, project focused internship or the development and implementation of their own entrepreneurial ideas and businesses. Students will start from the basics of what is an entrepreneur as they use Strength-Finders to identify their own personal attributes and conclude their year with an entrepreneurial portfolio that may include a successful internship product and/or a ready-to-start business plan.
The program day for the students will generally be for five full hours. This schedule will allow students to take at least two classes at their home high school. Announcements and information from home high schools will be posted daily to keep students informed of happenings at their home high schools. Students will maintain affiliation with their home high school and will graduate and participate in athletics and other student activities at their home high school. At least one and a half hours a day will be specifically devoted to direct instruction of the multiple facets of entrepreneurship. Other times spent in specific LPS curriculum courses will fulfill all requirements of LPS course objectives while incorporating entrepreneurship topics on an ongoing basis.
Students at the Entrepreneurship Focus Program will experience a rich, interdisciplinary high school curriculum with a distinct emphasis on personal skill development and entrepreneurship. Student transcripts will reflect the same course titles as currently assigned by LPS high schools. EFP offers courses that meet graduation requirements in English, math, social studies, applied arts (all E-ship and marketing), economics (Econ and App Econ), technology (multimedia), and human behavior (Psych). Major course objectives within each area of instruction, as approved by the Lincoln Board of Education, will guide teacher instruction and student expectations. Differentiated, A.P, and weighted grades courses are offered.
